Have you heard the terms intelligent lighting, up lighting, moving heads, scanners or led? Many people come across this terms when booking a DJ or entertainer for a party or event. Do you know exactly what they are and what you are paying for? By the end of this article, you’ll have a grip on intelligent lighting.

Lighting can be extremely important for your event. Depending on your affair, lighting can set the mood of your theme and motivate guests to dance. There’s different types of lighting that can make this magical color spectacle happen.

What is Intelligent Lighting

Intelligent lighting is a term used for an innovative type of party or stage light. Their automated mechanism allows the lights to move and create complicated and colorfull effects. For celebrations, intelligent lighting can create lighting arrangements of your desired color to match your theme. For theatricals, they can change the stage from daylight to dusk. Moving heads and scanners are the most up to date technology in the intelligent lighting spectrum.

Moving Heads

The newer moving heads can rotate between 360°- 180° degrees. They are visually more interesting to guests and offer a larger range of movement and lighting output than scanners.

Scanners

Scanners also have the ability to change colors and patterns but unlike moving heads, they have limited mobility of its head. Instead, it features a moving mirror that gives the fixture the ability to project patterns and colors throughout the room. There’s many debates whether scanners are better than moving heads or vice versa. Scanners are faster than moving head fixtures. However, moving heads will capture the interest of your guests with its moving function. In today’s market, intelligent lighting is manufactured with LED technology.

LED

This new technology is rapidly being adapted commercially as a replacement to traditional bulb. LED has revolutionized scanners, moving heads and other fixtures because they do not require cool down time (like traditional DJ lights) and have a very small energy draw. When a DJ says they have LED lighting, it merely represents the “technology” used in their lights rather than the type of lights they use.

Traditional Lighting

This lights are usually older lights that don’t have the pan/tilt technology that the newer lights have. Traditional lights will still give you the array of colors that will  illuminate a room, but with an older style of beam projection (more like a stationary crystal ball).

Up lighting

Up lighting will mask the walls of your venue with colorfull and stunning effects. Click to read more.
